Indiana University Teaching Handbook, Table of Contents
The IU Teaching Handbook is an online primer consisting of three sections: Preparing to Teach, Teaching Methods, and Creating a Positive Environment. Links to additional readings are provided in each section. The handbook is maintained by Campus Instructional Consulting.
Preparing to Teach discusses how to plan a course, issues of professionalism, and the use of teaching evaluations to improve a course from year to year. Teaching Methods discusses specific instructional methodologies, including lecturing, facilitating discussions, group work, assessing student performance, using case studies, managing science labs, and teaching with technology. Creating a Positive Environment describes strategies for ensuring diversity, civility, and ethical behavior in the classroom.
