Elizabeth Haugh Oates receives the 2006 Kenneth R. R. Gros Louis Scholarship
Elizabeth H. Oates is a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences from Coral Gables, Florida. She is majoring in Economics and Mathematics with a minor in Spanish and is in the Liberal Arts Management Program. Her honors include being on the dean's list during all semesters while at IU. She is a Metz Scholar, and has received numerous other scholarships and awards based on academic achievement. She also did overseas study in Seville, Spain, through the Council on International Educational Exchange. Elizabeth holds leadership positions in several campus organizations. She is president of the Board of Aeons and immediate past president of the IU Rotaract Club. She is a volunteer at the St. Thomas Lutheran Church and also serves as a peer minister of the IU Lutheran Campus Ministries. She was one of three student representatives of the U.S. at the 5th International Student Symposium. Elizabeth's work experiences include positions as student staff intern for the IU Intensive Freshman Seminar, peer instructor for IU Freshman Interest Groups, software assistant at Oates Associates, Inc., undergraduate intern for the IU Department of Economics, intern, office of the mayor, Coral Gables, FL, and youth coordinator for the St. Thomas Lutheran Church. Elizabeth will graduate from IU in May 2007 with a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics and also a LAMP Certificate, General Honors Notation. After graduation she plans to attend graduate school in economics or a related field and pursue a career in consulting, policy, training, teaching, or research.
